Whoever said "age is just a state of mind" was loony!

ALONG FOR THE RIDE

I love to ride a bus.  Actually, I really like all public transportation, as long as I feel safe when I'm waiting for it and when I'm on it.  I also like it when there is a reliable schedule.

When I was young I rode the bus anywhere I needed to go, sometimes with a transfer, but usually directly.  I took this service for granted..........until it was not available.   Now I let my better half do the majority of the driving and worrying about traffic, directions, crazy drivers and parking places.  He has the same talent for timing that the bus drivers had, maybe even better.  Hey - guess what I just realized;  I always thought was looking for a knight in shining armor when what I was really looking for was .....a bus driver!

Static Electricity - ZAP!

It's that stuff that makes a spark when you touch something or someone in the winter.  Another thing static electricity does is make your clothing hug (cling to) you or your hair stand on end after you remove your winter hat.

Science says that static electricity is "the imbalance of positive and negative charges."  Booorrrring answer.  I believe that it's actually caused by baby lightning.  Think about it.  Static is mostly annoying, but not really deadly (in most cases) just like little children.  Children play at grownup games and practice what they will some day do for real; they also like to have fun and play funny tricks on others.  Seems just like what static electricity does, doesn't it!  I mean how funny is it when your hair stands up on end or you find a sock stuck to your shirt or a small piece of plastic just will not leave your fingers!   Not really harmful, unless you're an electronic gadget like a computer!

Now grown up lightning is another story! Science tells us that "it is caused by a giant 'spark' which results when liquid and ice particles above the freezing level collide, and build up large electrical fields in clouds."  Come on now!  That doesn't make sense. . . I mean the temperature inside a lightning bolt can reach 50,000 degrees F, which is hotter than the surface of the sun, for heaven's sake!  How could something that comes from "ice particles" get that hot?  Not gonna happen.

Lightning is the result of all the banked rage in the world.  Yes folks; when you hold on to your anger and "bank" it instead of blowing your top or losing your temper it builds up in accounts in cloudbanks,
joining all the rest of the unvented anger from that area of the world.  When they have enough energy banked together, they plan an attack, send down a bolt of lightning, and laugh it up with a boom (we call it thunder).  Now doesn't that make a lot better sense than saying that electrons (none of whom have ever been seen) move from one place to another?  Really, the things people think up.

So what's the answer?  Next time you get angry, let it out in constructive ways; pick a fight with a drug pusher (who's smaller than you) and beat the heck out of him; tell the next person who is rude to you what you really think of them; if someone takes the parking place you were waiting for, follow them into the store and when they're not looking put some expensive or embarrassing things in their cart.  As for other peoples anger - if they're holding back, spray Static Guard around the area to kill the baby lightning before it grows up.

Lint - What is it really?

I wonder if there have ever been any scientific explanations of why our clothes choose to shed their outer layers not only in the washer/dryer but also in our bellybuttons (aka navels).  It also seems like clothing made from natural fibers commits suicide faster than those constructed of man-made materials.

Silk is my very favorite, but those things I love the most, leave me the fastest.  Cotton is my next favorite; it really loves to spread its fluff around.  I don't do wool - it makes me itch - but my guess is  it wants to get back on the sheep where it can graze peacefully in green pastures.

Polyester has never known the outdoors and therefore has no reason to try to escape.  It doesn't know there is anything else to be except pants, shirts, hats, socks or underwear.

Now tires, on the other hand, send out spies to stick to our windows and find out what we are up to.  So that explains why our tires wear out. . . . but what about our clothes?  What does lint do for fun?  Heck if I know.

Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine . . .

Isn't science the best!!  Now they tell us that chocolate and red wine are actually good for us!!   We've suspected it for years - but now it's official - we can consume without guilt.

Chocolate does make life bearable and wine smoothes out life's bumps.  These are two of my friends and I don't have to worry about feeling guilty when we're together because these are now on the "good for you" list.

You know how they say "adversity makes you strong" and "whenever God closes a door, He opens a window"?   Well, these may be true, but that doesn't mean they're easy.  A glass or two of your favorite wine, however, sands down the rough spots and oils the squeaks.  If stress is the biggest killer, wine  just may be the antidote.

To be loved is . . . .

. . . the greatest thing a person can experience.  Actually, to be loved UNCONDITIONALLY, is the greatest experience.  Most of us have things about ourselves that we consider to be "unlovable" (e.g. a physical imperfection, something in our past, or our attitude), therefore it comes as a surprise when someone actually, truely loves us, unconditionally.   A famous preacher once gave a sermon about how true love is not loving someone because of . . .  it's loving someone in spite of . . . .   That's the way God loves us (thank goodness!).   Yeah!

I personally would like it to be against the law to say, "I love you" to someone frivolously or for selfish reasons.  Silly, huh.

On another note, isn't it a shame that the English language only has one word for love?  I love my husband and I love chocolate - "what's wrong with this picture?"
Who's in charge of making changes in the language?  Does anyone have his/her e-mail address?  I have a few suggestions . . . . . 'nuff said.

It's Complicated

Just finished watching Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin in a very funny movie.  I loved most of it, except the way the use of marijuana was romanticized.  I recommend this movie to anyone needing a laugh.  Watch it with someone you love.

Artists are the Spice of Life!

I just visited 101 Bird Tales' blog and website.  She is amazing and I'm going to use some of her craft ideas - her instructions are so clear and easy to follow.  Her art is very unusual - she takes random things, finds some commonality and then puts them together in such a way that it seems they not only belong together but would be lost without the rest.

I am hopelessly "nonartistic" and can't even begin to imagine how someone takes a blank surface and brings it to "life".  Michael Angelo said he simply chipped away the excess stone and revealed what was already in the marble.  What's up with that?  And how do random colors get together and take us to the ocean, a mountain stream, an Italian villa, into our own mind?

There are three very special people in my life who have great artistic talent - none of them are using that talent right now and it makes me sad.  One lives in heaven; I often try to "channel" her, to no avail.  Another will never again because she's lost in Alzheimer’s; the third is trying to make a living at what he is very good at doing.

I think there's something magical about a true artist.  It's a shame that some artist's work is never appreciated as much until there is no more because they have died.

Where does it go?

I was just wondering, when you lose weight where does it go? Is there a collection of weight in some weight bank somewhere that collects it and then distributes it to others who either withdrew it or earned it as interest or dividends?  Are we given an account in this bank the moment we are born and then it goes back into the bank, available to others when we die?

Excuse me, I'd like to make a small deposit if I might . . .

How'd I get so lucky?

I am possibly the luckiest person on Earth. Really! Every dream I've ever had has come true. Sometimes it's not exactly as I dreamed it would be but it's always answered. I've come to realize that dreams, like prayers, are always heard and always answered, just not always the way we expect them to be, nor when we expect them to be, thank goodness!

My First Blog - Who Named it That, Anyway?

Ok, here goes.  I can't believe I'm actually taking my first step into the 21st century.  I still can't program my DVD player or transfer pictures from my cell phone (I asked the guy for a simple phone - one that doesn't take pictures or send e-mails, etc, but he said there was not such thing as a cell phone that just sends and receives calls - go figure).

Anyway, I got started with this by trying to comment on someone else's blog and found I couldn't unless I had a blog of my own - sounds like a sneaky way to get my personal info if you ask me.  Anyway, I don't have any Earth-shaking or life-changing thoughts today so I'll just congratulate myself and sign off for now.  Wait . . . what are Labels at the bottom of the page I wonder?  If you had nothing better to do with your time and you know what they are, please tell me.  Thanks.
